Defect Equilibria

Chemical equilibria between species on a lattice with a fixed number of sites is known as defect chemistry. Defects in ionic lattices are charged; Kroger-Vink notation is introduced to distinguish the various types of defects and their associated charges.

The results also apply to the equilibrium concentration of charged carriers in a semiconductor.
