The immediate surroundings after each jump must be the same (excepting a change of orientation
of the vacancy–atom pair), consisting of the atom with a nearest-neighbor vacancy next to it. The
average of what happens to produce the next jump must be the same for all pairs of jumps (in
their respective orientations).
