Correlation between Final Exam Performance and
Homework Performance

Correlation between improvement (measured by taking
a weighted average of the increase between midterm
and final exam scores) and the final class score.

Positive improvement indicates that the student had
(generally) exam scores that increased as the class progressed.

Correlation between improvement index (as discussed in
the upper right graph) and the bonus points (described in
syllabus) obtained by demonstration of "hors d'oeuvre" note
taking and recopying.

Correlation between final exam score and the "hors d'oeuvre"
points described in the above graph.

Sadly, I find no positive correlation here. One may ascribe
this result to a mitigating associated with those students
who tend to do poorly on exams get a greater (points) benefit from the
note taking device. However, such arguments often arise from
pathological self-deception.

Correlation between class participation (as measured as objectively
as possible by Catherine Bishop) and the Final Exam Score.
